obviously he meant the Gnu Public License
(and not the Lesser GPL, and hardly anyone has heard of the FDL so lets
not be difficult)

If you want to use abiword you dont have to agree to the license, your
statutary rights are not affected.
The GPL only really comes into effect when you want to use the code, other
than that the normal rules of copyright apply.
