Francisco, Give the link http://www.niksbiks.dk/Download/Abi/setup_abiword.exe a try. (Thank you, Piotr.) I did, and got a newer version of AbiWord (complete with unchecked .doc and .rtf choices). There's nothing challenging about it. I'm just a user--the only CVS I know about is the chain of pharmacies here in the States.
