They've flip-flopped a few times between: 1) Using AbiWord's builtin ispell and dictionaries 2) Patching AbiWord to use their system dictionaries 3) Compiling AbiWord to use aspell/pspell We try to keep the documentation as up-to-date as possible, but it's very hard to support third-party builds, especially if they patch your sources. Hitting moving targets sucks, especially since we're not directly responsible for them, and they don't exactly communicate to us what sort of modifications and configuration options they make when releasing a new copy. And our time and ambition to search this out ourselves is, well, limited at best. If you can, check out our abiword-docs module, and send us a new copy of infospelling.abw, complete with your Aspell/Pspell notes. The reason that our current Pspell info is so short is that Pspell is *way* simpler than Ispell to setup and configure properly. You probably already have the dictionaries down on your machine. And if you don't, well, that's kind-of your fault. But we should still make some note of it, yes.
