You might try using the word DISTINCT in the SQL statement.  That 
should get you one record per match.  Also, you have no criteria (WHERE 
clause).  I have modified the SQL statement (my modifications are in 
CAPS - I made the rest of the statement lowercase to show my changes).

select DISTINCT customer, count(0)

from table1 WHERE (SOME CRITERIA)

group by customer 

order by count(0) desc
