Dear Rajesh: I am a frequent traveler between Bangalore and Chennai and during my travels have used my concessional certificate and have found no hassles at all with the counter-staff. FYI, I mostly go to the railway counter in M. G. Road (Unity Building, 23rd floor) in Bangalore where the staff even allow me to skip the queue to get my tickets very fast.
I have traveled in both sleeper class, third and second AC and have also traveled in AC chair car during the day using my concession. This is not only for myself but also for my wife. There may be problems with staff in some sector/stations, but can we blame the entire railway for this? I certainly don't deny the point that that some of them can be insensitive to the extent of being brutal. However, when fed into the system, it readily allots it the blind: with or without escort. Same is the case with "handicapped higher class concession" as the railways calls it, which is fifty percent concession in first and second AC. It is refused by rank and file, on precisely the same ground as above, and accepted by system when fed. But, at times, they don't take the trouble of feeding it into the system. Railways is requested to rectify these and other semantic ambiguities. Maybe, I wonder, we should prepare a consolidated petition for each sector and follow it up with respective authorities by our collective strength. Each sector may be assigned to each willing and able volunteer from amongst us.
