I have just sent a mail to Mr Mukesh Jain with reference to his quote in the
TOI. Mr Mukesh Jain is positively well meaning. He needs guidance. Experts can
rally around him and give him inputs. I would like to ask the group as to who
might be considered the foremost IT accessibility experts in the country. Any
ideas? Can names be shared?

To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the
disabled.
Subject: Re: [AI] Brainstorming in Ahmedabad to make India disabled-friendly

Prashant, despite being on program monitoring unit, we haven't got any call
till date for any meeting of PMU since we last met which I had shared with some
of you on different platform.

But we have been very categorical right from beginning that Accessibility means
access to ICT, physical infra & transport infra. The ICT doesn't get left out.
Those of you who are ICT experts can send your expression of interest to the
Ministry so that the work of auditing website etc could come to you. I hope you
will understand India has a good number of experts and not all may see
representation on few committees. But idea is that all get involved in the
process and the sector is kept informed.

Sometimes media bytes picked up also have a tone of the selective reporting and
missing the crux. Thus lets not criticize the intention or the activities of
the department. Mr. Mukesh Jain is a well meaning joint secretary in the
Ministry and is doing a wonderful work with a small team.
If we all can supplement their effort with our expertise, it can bring the
desired results much faster.
regards
Subhash
