You are all invoking fond memories of my school days.
I am also a product of Government school for blind children in Mysore. WE were not even provided accessible text books properly in those days. In those days accessible books means braille or cassette formats. Despite such deprivations, few of my contemporaries carved their own ways and achieved academic excellence. But we were blessed with many big grounds. Apart from running skipping and other outdoor activities, we invented many types of ball games including the indoor ones which group of few totally blinds can play for hours. I was never good at sports but enjoyed all kinds of such games which were our own products. Today, the situation has improved a lot. There is scope for all round development of blind children in the schools exclusively meant for blind. In our school campus, I never had a feeling of blindness. Sedentary life is common today even among children - blind or sighted. I feel in case of blind children, apart from basic education and other skills, more stress should be given to their outdoor and sports activities which is difficult to carry on as adults. I wonder how many blind schools pay heed towards this aspect of childhood.
