Dear friends,

To those who prefer to sound holier than thou, let me say this: yes,
terminology does have relevance. It has relevance to the extent that
it is reflective of a certain mindset; it also has relevance and it
impacts and affects our distinct identity as a group.

Talking about feelings behind the use of an expression seems to have
become a sad with that holier than thou class. One must ask them whose
feelings on earth are they referring to? The feelings of the person
using a certain terminology? Or the feelings of the group of persons
for whom a certain terminology is used? Who decides our feelings?—we
ourselves or others who are persons without disabilities? Obviously,
it is only we who should decide and not they. Fact should be stated in
a forthright and decent way; and, condescension and patronizing is no
substitute for decency. Therefore, i strongly and passionately feel
that the saner element amongst persons with disabilities understand
the hollowness of this coaxing and cajoling by using condescending
expressions like Divyang. Use of this kind of terminology is not just
patronizing; it also has the effect of diluting our identity as
persons with disabilities, besides, this terminology is also based on
an erroneous and misplaced understanding of the narrative of
disability which tends to equate disability with ones overall
inability.
Friends, on the lighter side, if we are labelled as divine limb, how
will you label those without disabilities? Demon limb?
