Hi Alvesh,

We’re adaptable. I too have gone through similar situations, and am
now living nicely. You too will feel better in some time.

The blessing of blindness is that it decreases our choices and
therefore we’re saved from so much confusion. When you have fewer
choices, you feel more contentment because then you don't regret for
the things that weren’t there on the option table.

Second, this might appear unintelligible to you, but as per one study,
people who get disabled feel more satisfied with life than others.

The reason behind this?

When disability meets them, they overestimate the difficulties and
frustrations that they may encounter. But as they steer their life
ahead, they uncover that life is far less tough than they had
imagined.

They enjoy simple things like navigating their way independently.
Doing bank work on their own (I withdraw thousands and thousands of
bucks from the bank and have to move around alone.)

In the beginning newly disabled folks presume that life would be
extremely sad and depressing, but they soon get adjusted to their new
conditions and things begin to look cheerful. Their presumptions
contrast with their new reality and they feel their little
accomplishments to be bonuses.

On marriage: You say that you might not get on well with your life
partner because of your blindness.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

Sorry, but no false hopes or encouragement.

The truth is that there’re many unmarried disabled people who’re
living successfully. And many disabled people are enjoying their
married lives.

Additionally, there’s a high chance for all married folks to get
separated from their life partners (disabled or otherwise.) Snoop
around a bit and you’ll find.

You can keep that blindness thing out of the equation.

Even if you get your sight restored, you can’t guarantee that
post-marriage everything will be rosy and fun.

I was scared of marriage as it were a raging hurricane, but now I’m
blessed with a good wife and two little children.

Besides having a good job, few of your blessings are:

You’re brave, optimistic, and resilient. Had it not been so, you won’t
have written this email.

You have desires. Had it not been so, you won’t have asked about
driving and marrying etc.

You’re a man of action. Had it not been so, you won’t have asked about books.

(By the way, The Story of my Life by Helen Keller and How to Stop
Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie might prove rocket fuel for
your confidence.)

Fall down seven times, stand up eight.

Japanese proverb

I like you and will be grateful to help you climb out of your
problems. Ph: +91-7379668382.

Your friend,

Shadab
