Indeed, that is what I've hurd as well. Although for me personally it never has really been an issue since gmail always worked fine for me on standard view, especially with the constant accessibility improvements and implementation of several handy keyboard shortcuts. That said, for those not comfortable with the moderately advanced web interface of standard view, you might want to look into native email clients such as m client or thunderbird. There is also the win10 mail client but for me that's always been shaky at best, unusable at wurse. Hth
