Study online: The new trend.

"The website is very useful since it is focused on studies and has all the
resources that a student could wish for. I would rather spend time on
Extramarks.com
rather than Orkut. It lets me network with like-minded students and have my
share of fun as well."

Karan Bajaj, Class XI, Bal Bharati School.

Karan probably echoes the general sentiment of students who have taken to this
new phenomenon in the education webspace - Online education. Part of this
phenomenon is Extramarks.com, an online educational support system for students
from Std. VI to XII based on the NCERT curriculum. It complements school
education by giving after-school study support.

The recently concluded The Hindu Young World Quiz '07 saw the 24 winners from
across South India registering on the website. "This is a great initiative.
It will help us prepare better for our upcoming exams," said one of the
winners.

On site

The site is a networked community of like-minded people committed to help a
student excel. The community has three key components: A peer network of
students
that allows students to bond and understand their subjects better, a network of
teachers and parents collaborating with students; and a resource centre
that provides students with ways to enrich their knowledge.

The site packs in many other resourceful and nifty feature. Take for example
the online testing tool and expert help. Got a question you don't have an answer
to? Ask the Experts! What's more, the community at Extramarks, will be more
than willing to help.

The site has a useful self-analysis feature: Online Testing. This is customised
for difficulty, duration and skill/knowledge levels. The test analysis report
packs in easy-to-understand information about your performance. An additional
feature is the "Detailed Answers", which has a comprehensive explanation
of the right answer.

The websitehas an in-built chill out zone. Members can blog or play games. You
can also interact with students. There will soon be contests, interaction
and activities to take part in!

On offer

Extramarks experts are available from 3.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m., Monday to Friday
and from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and all holidays.

At present the service is free and the website works on a point system. The
more you participate, the more points you earn. These can be used for various
activities like "Ask an Expert", downloading solved board papers, talking the
online tests ... If you run out of points, you can buy them at a nominal
charge.
