what i noticed is that, in the latest versions, some time we get popup alerts by adobe which are not accessible to us. dismissing that message may start reading documents. we need to make several changes by going to adobe properties after opening a file. opening adobe software first and then opening document through it may work some time instead of directly opening the document.
