Of course loadstone along with Google maps is an alternative.
Now, it depends on what is exactly meant by good enough alternatives.
At least, LS and GM are free, so in financial terms, they are good enough for 
navigation.

The information that I received from the Access mailing list assures the

existence of WF till April 2011 and nothing can be sure after that. It
seems
that some companies like Talksnav in UK tried to negotiate with
Vadaphone
and they did not succeed. So the present status is that WF is certainly
going down and the question is when. Unless some other institution
manages
to buy the software from Vodephoen, the program is not going to survive
and
people are already beginning to explore alternatives.
