Dear friends, Namasthee to all. This animated discussion is quite interesting. The spirit behind making efforts to improve one's language abilities is good and should be taken in that spirit. It is for the individuals to act and improve their abilities. After having said as above, it is also necessary to understand why many people, myself included, make spelling mistakes. One, unlike our Indian languages, English spellings do not fully conform to pronounciation. Two, we very often wrongly pronounce English wordsand more often than not our pronounciation carry a tinge of of our mother tongue's accent. I should confess that my ability to spell correctly has improved after I started losing my sight. I should thank my good friend JAWS for this improvement. Also, Mr JAWS has helped me in learning the correct pronounciation( of course excluding our Indian language words). Friends, what should be one's approach on this spellings issue one may decide after reading the following story. A loving husband had to part with his wife, as she was to be sent to her parents house for delivery. At the time of her departure, the husband handed over a bundle of inland post cards and asked her to write him letters everyday. For her convenience he had himself written his full postal adress. Her job was simple, only write the letter and put it in the post box. The wife dutyfully did what she was told by her husband. When she returned back to her husband along with the baby, she scornfully asked why he did not reply to any of her letters. The husband simplypointed his finger to the drawer of his table. On opening the drawer, the wife to her surprise saw all her letters in tact. Her husband, being a school teacher, had corrected the spellings and put marks as 2/10, 3/10, 5/10 and so on with remarks also.
