vamshi bro, i currently do not have a demet account for myself, but as far as circulars are concern, yes, both cdsl and nsdl circulars explicitly mentions that the account can be opened and operated with thumb impression.
One can find both the circulars on my website at www.prateekagarwal.webs.com | www.prateekagarwal.tk for your convenience, here are the relevant sections: nsdl: --- 4) The DP should capture the Clients' signature(s) as given in the Account Opening Form in the DPM system. Further, a remark should be put in the DPM system (under the authorised signatory details in 'signatories' screen) that the Client is "Visually Challenged". Further, if the Client is illiterate, then DP should put in the remark as "Visually Challenged and Thumb Impression". --- Cdsl: --- 1. The beneficial owners (BOs) should, as far as possible, come in person to open the account. Such person(s), at the time of opening an account with a DP must affix the thumb impression (left hand thumb in case of a male and right hand thumb in case of a female) on the agreement as well as on the account opening form in the presence of an authorised officer of the DP, who should certify that the thumb impression was affixed in his presence. --- I reiterate, those who would like to have the circulars can go to my website for obtaining them. If yes, with which company? Do the NSDL and CDSL circulars in this regard explicitly speak about operating accounts with thumb impression? Replies awaited. -- G.
