Ok, I tried it with the hints from Satguru and it worked. In fact, I don't have to use it. I am using an mp3 player for last four years. I use it extensively for listening to fm and mainly audio books. Anyway, I am pasting the relevant portion from Satguru's message:

Launch Radio and open the Talks settings by Talks+*. Go to options and select "Apps Specific settings". Talks would read "Radio, using Standard settings only". Again go to options and click on "Add App Specific Value" and arrow down to "Mute" and select. Change it from "No to "Yess" and exit.

Next time when you would open the radio, the talks would be muted automatically and exiting the radio would again unmute the talks.

With best regards,
Amiyo Biswas.
