If any one wants SP3 installer then I can upload it on dropbox and share the
link to the list. It's a 316 MB file. Should I?

Hi friends,
sorry for a very long delay in replying. since we had a national conference
on agricultural marketing organized by our department, I was busy with it
and could not able to communicate with the list.
I had a dilemma of changing the subject line of the message but finally left
it unaltered.
first of all, thanks to all the persons who helped me with their ideas and
experiences. now my laptop is working fine. some of them even guided me
through phone. I am grateful to all of them as I would be in a very
difficult situation otherwise. additionally I thank the moderators for
providing such beautiful platform for mutually solving real problems. I know
that thanks messages should be avoided in the list but I could not hold my
feelings. but I have some info to share with the list, out of my laptop
experience and hence wrote this message. and it follows:
out of a few suppliers in the market, dell seems to be the best in terms of
providing information to customers and post purchase service. but if one is
particular about running winXP, one should not go to dell, especially if he
wants to use Wifi. we do not get drivers for the components for which dell
itself is the manufacturer such as Bluetooth and wifi. as I got from the
technical team of dell, only 2 models in vostro series are compatible with
XP. and both of them are out of market. dell only provides service to those
purchased earlier.
sony seems to be expensive and not customer friendly. but I have little
experience. lenovo is one which provides drivers for win XP but not a good
service. I bought ideapad Z570 597654 for Rs. 41370 at Bangalore. this
model's configuration seems to be economically good. but its wifi device
which is an atheros product, is not good and causes DPC latency problem with
the processor. as a result very often audio get interrupted and for jaws
users its really annoyance. this occurs if following conditions prevail:
the wifi driver is installed
wifi device is not disabled in device manager
wifi switch is turned off
if driver is not installed or it is disabled, latency does not happen. if we
switch on wifi, latency reduces to nearly half and audio problem is not
likely to happen.
as per prateek agarwal's advice, I got another driver which is far better
than one given in lenovo site though it is not perfect. it creates moderate
latency when switched on but no latency when switched off. I checked it in
our university wifi and its working fine with the network. so whenever I do
not use wifi, I switch it off. even if switched on, I have not faced audio
problem so far.
but since it is not a complete solution, I have written to lenovo. they said
that some other (unknown) team will look after the matter and get back to me
(don't know when?).
shona man and salman did not reply whether they have same problem or not.
shona man, its for your info, we cannot uninstall bios update nor revert it
with system restore. restore only looks after system files in the hard disk.
someone in the thread asked for SP3 download link. but the link I provided
in my previous message is wrong and the file I downloaded did not install.
we need a different file and ask sheik mohammedali for more details.

Dear umesha,
Right, so the root cause for the issue has been pinpointed.
Believe it or not, people using atheros wi fi adapters are some of
the most frequent complainants of such types of cases.
Athero is cheaper than some of its major competitors, hence many
companies are preferring their hardware in their machines.
The wiggly red lines that you are seeing are definetly because of the
high latency that its experiencing.
Technically, that means that the wi fi adapter is taking more
resources than it should actually take.
in regards of solutions,
there does not seem a complete rectification of this problem, however
driver update can be of some help.
Try updating the drivers for your athero’s wi fi device and see if it
makes a difference.
As per my recent observation, athero has not been updating their
drivers for windows xp and most of their latest drivers claims to work
well with vista or windows 7.
However, its worth keeping yours to the latest possible, of course the
one that’s compatible with your operating system.
If that doesn’t work, try reaching to lenovo technical support and
telling them the problem.
You basically have to inquire if its possible to change the hardware
under your sales term.
It has been seen that these companies have made their legal policies
smart enough to save themselves from any possible hazard. Especially
in the case of devices and their compatibility with various operating
system.
Someone on the thread has said that a dos based machine means that
its compatible with any operating system, but I remind of a judgement
given in united states sometime back where it was said that a dos
based machine means that the company has not particularly tested the
machine with different operating systems, hence it would not be
responsible for any hardware compatibility issues.
Legally, whole claim for the compatibility is being smartly averted to
the device manufacturers.
Though you’ve been condemning to use windows7, but I would still
like to advice that please give it a try at least.
Not just to get acquainted with it, but more importantly to find out
the performance of your audio and wi fi devices with that and check if
a driver update helps there instead.
For your information, windows 7 has an xp mode, which pretty much
brings your old days back.
Also, there are other fantastic programs like classic shell etc
which restores your xp experience to quite an extent.
Like it or not, not all the latest devices have enough support
available for windows xp now, and the reason behind this is
Microsoft policies where they have deliberately promoted vista and
windows7 over xp from past few years.
It has been already announced that the support for windows xp would
no longer be available after 2014, so I personally find this a wise
decision to upgrade the OS, specially if its causing issues to make
compatibility with latest hardware devices.
Oh and some of you guys have written to me off the list to ask my
contact number.
Those would like to get in touch with me through phone would like to note,
its:
+91-9928341197.
Hope this helps.

Dear Salman and others,
Sorry for the delay. Yesterday I was completely involved in testing
process. So could not reply. I could find the source of the problem.
Now we have to work out for the permanent solution. Following is the
result. But I din’t understand your previous message. 2 days ago, you
said that you bought your laptop only 3 days earlier. But in the last
message you said that you restored your machine to November 15th. How
is it possible? Is your system clock not correct?
To prateek aggarwal,
Yes sir. It is due to Audio latency. I downloaded DPC Latency Checker
from the following link:
http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
When I first ran it on the system, I got all the red bars on the graph
even while there is no sound problem. The latency was varying for
every 2-3 seconds from about 2500 micro seconds to 12500 or 13500
micro seconds. While the sound problem was present, the bars touched
the sealing of the chart. The latency was recorded in the range of
150000 to 300000 micro seconds. Some times it even went up to 700000
micro seconds. Surprisingly, even when I disabled my realtek
soundcard, I got the red bars of same height. Next I suspected network
cards. The moment I disabled my wifi card, it dropped to very low in
the green region (125 micro seconds). If I re-enable the wifi card,
the next second again I got the same red bars. One more thing I like
to tell you, if I enable wifi device and turn on it using the switch
provided on the laptop, it substantially drops but not to green
region. Then I get alternating 2-3 yellow bars (about 1200 micro
seconds) and 1 or 2 red bars (about 6300 micro seconds). The earlier
observations are when wifi is enabled but switch is off. I also ran my
computer for long time to find whether the problem appears after
disabling wifi and it ran without trouble for hours. So it is clear
that my atheros Wi-Fi card is causing it. Now please tell me sir, what
I have to do next for solving that wifi device problem. If you need, I
will provide the screen shots of the graphs obtained using DPC latency
checker.
Salman, as you know this problem does not occur continuously but it
comes and goes for some minutes. Hence I was testing it by running my
system for long time. So I could not reply in time. I did not install
SP3. But if you need it, its download page is

The following links may also be of some use.

To shona man,
Out of curiosity, I want to know. Can we uninstall BIOS with system
restore?
To Kiran Baug,
Do we have difference between Indian and US sites in terms of
downloads available for a model?
