It's possible that the "direct edit in cells" feature is disabled in Excel. The below steps would help you enable it:
1. Open Tools menu with ALT+T. 2. Select Options by pressing O. 3. Select "Advanced" in the Category listbox. 4. Check the checkbox labelled "Allow editing directly in cells". The shortcut for this checkbox is ALT+E after selecting "Advanced" in the Category listbox. 5.
