Well this is great news that JNU is planning to establish a Centre for Disability Studies. Care must however be taken that the research undertaken needs to be directed at bringing about a definite change in the way the Nation and the community understands and responds to disability. It certainly should not be adding to the rims of paper that is stacked away as academic work that is useless.

I am attaching a link below that has a list of the disability studies centres and departments in North America: http://disabilitystudies.syr.edu/resources/programsinds.aspx With regard to your first question, I know that NALSAR university of law in Hyderabad has a Disability Studies Centre and I believe there is one in Kerala though i'm not sure where. It may be M.G.University. I know that the Equal Opportunity Cell in DU conducts some certificate programmes in disability related issues. Two or three universities advertised teaching positions under the title Disability Studies but I don't think they moved ahead with their recruitment or even with the establishment of centres. These include Ambedkar University Delhi and University of Hyderabad. I am attaching below the link to the PhD in Disability Studies programme offered at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC): http://www.ahs.uic.edu/dhd/academics/phd.php I studied at the above mentioned university (UIC) so please feel free to contact me off list in case you require further information. All the best at JNU with the proposed project!
