This is regarding the views in respect of the proposed national commission for persons with disabilities. With all the humility but at the same time, with all the emphasis at my command do i strongly favour the view that the chair person of the said commission should invariably be a competent and commited person with a disability just as the chair person of the women's commission is always a woman, of minorities commission a person belonging to the minority community, of S.C. S.T. Commission a person belonging to those communities. The principle applied here is that only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches. Why should there be a departure from this established principle and practice in relation to national commission for persons with disabilities. I would also suggest that at par with other commissions of similar nature, the majority of members of the national commission for persons with disabilities should comprise of persons with disabilities.
I whole heartedly share the feeling that the office of the chief commissioner has been doing path breaking and cutting-edge work ever since Mr. Prasanna kumar pincha who is himself a person with a disability assumed charge of the said office.
