the concern is not to identify the colour, rather it is to figure out how to access the list of available variants of the product pertaining to any particular colour by executing the corresponding option. In fact, this keystroke can't be helpful in recognizing the colour of the items since they are displayed in image. This keystroke only says the foreground and background colours of the text at the active cursor position.
