This explains why Windows doesn't fail on this machine.
Windows doesn't poll.  As the machine never sends events,
it doesn't call attention to how broken it is.

It occured to me that CONFIG_ACPI_THERMAL=n and thermal.disable=1
may be over-kill, even for a box as broken as this one.
For you may still be interested in reading the current temperature.

Also, if we enable polling, there is no reason that we couldn't keep
the critical trip point.  Indeed, if we have to enable polling,
we could give you a passive trip point override also if you want it.

Active cooling control, of course, is hopeless on this box.
