BIOS 207 is now available for M51TA from
http://www.asustreiber.de/downloads/file/1167-m51taas-207
I am running 2.6.29rc5 with MTRR=ON (!) and the notebook boots with acpi
enabled! (without acpi=off, nolapic etc.) !
Nevertheless acpi does not seem to work properly: battery doesn't last for more
than 1 hour. 

I don't know why this new bios is not available from the asus download page
(yet).
