I can reproduce this bug on a Thinkpad T42, where the boot freezes with
2.6.30-rc1 and -rc2. The kernel will boot OK if I remove "hpet=force" from the
command line.

Reverting ff69f2bba67bd45514923aaedbf40fe351787c59 does allow the system to
boot, but certain timers appear to be faulty: one symptom being that the laptop
fails to reliably associate to the wireless access point. Booting that kernel
(with revert) without "hpet=force" on the command line gives normal behaviour.

"hpet=force" is needed to get the HPET in the T42's ICH4 chipset to be
recognised. This is a definite regression from 2.6.29.
