Loaded with "nomodeset" keeps the brightness at the same level as it was at the
grub/BIOS screen, cannot change the level.  An interesting find though: use of
function keys changes the value of
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness as expected, but the value
of /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD02/brightness does not update until I have read from
actual_brightness?  Perhaps nothing too important there, but an interesting
find, nonetheless.

On attempted loading of acer-wmi, dmesg reports: 
acer-wmi: Acer Laptop ACPI-WMI Extras
acer-wmi: Unable to detect available WMID devices
