I have upgraded my 1005PE netbook to Fedora 14 Beta which includes kernel
2.6.25.4 and more importantly the eeepc-wmi module. I also am using BIOS 1103.

I can now boot WITHOUT any acpi_ options and both eeepc_laptop and eeepc_wmi
modules get loaded. This combination allows adjusting the backlight normally
(including Gnome giving visual feedback).

I'd consider this bug report resolved.
