Have been running 2.6.39 since 3 weeks (rc6 on gentoo, rc5 on kubuntu natty)
and haven't had a single thermal shutdown since then. Releases 2.6.37 and .38
were really unstable (apart from the thermal shutdowns), and I had the
impression that above patch only changed the thermal shutdown into lockups (so
the system would just hang instead of shutting down with the thermal shutdown
message)
My laptop had the thermal shutdown problem for several years now (since 2.6.30
was released) and it was quite frustrating, so I am quite relieved that they
seem to be finally gone :)
