Bug ID: 221228
Summary: thinkpad_acpi: "ThinkPad ACPI EC access misbehaving,
disabling thermal sensors access" on Lenovo ThinkPad
X9-14 Gen 1
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: EC
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Regression: No
I am observing the following kernel message on a Lenovo ThinkPad X9-14 Gen 1
running Arch Linux:
thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI EC access misbehaving, disabling thermal sensors
access
# System information:
Kernel: 6.19.6-arch1-1
Laptop model: Lenovo ThinkPad X9-14 Gen 1 (21QBS0KV00)
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 268V
BIOS version: N4DET34W (1.17)
EC firmware: N4DHT32W
Distribution: Arch Linux
# dmesg output:
[ 1.042034] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI Extras v0.26
[ 1.042040] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad BIOS N4DET34W (1.17 ), EC N4DHT32W
[ 1.042041] thinkpad_acpi: Lenovo ThinkPad X9-14 Gen 1, model 21QBS0KV00
[ 1.053716] thinkpad_acpi: ThinkPad ACPI EC access misbehaving, disabling
thermal sensors access
# sensors output:
thinkpad-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 0 RPM
fan2: 0 RPM
pwm1: 0% MANUAL CONTROL
Other sensors (CPU, NVMe, ACPI thermal zone) appear to function normally.
# Observations
* The kernel message appears during boot.
* It appears that EC-based thermal sensors are disabled by the driver.
* No ThinkPad EC temperature sensors are exposed via thinkpad-isa-0000.
* CPU and NVMe temperatures are still available via other drivers.
This system is a relatively new ThinkPad model, so it may require updated EC
handling or a quirk in the thinkpad_acpi driver.
Please let me know if additional logs would help (e.g., acpidump, full dmesg,
etc.).
