Shawn: No problem. You are not out of place. The reason I was trying to do this was: I was attempting to use Reporting Services and I needed one result set. However: I found out that you can use Excel / VBA type functions in cells as well. I was hoping though for future reference: this might have been possible. Thanks Andy

Wouldn't the averages have more analytical value if they were returned separately and individually without a group by clause? Or are you basing the results on "if the response to q1 is x then the answer to q2 is most often y, but if q1 is a then q2 is more likely b..."
