Title: Message

Hello Justin,

I think we’re talking about a few different things here.

The initial question was “Are there any issues with Active Directory Native Mode and Exchange 5.5?”

I have never seen any issues caused by running E5.5 in a 2K native mode domain.

E5.5 by itself knows nothing about the AD and vise versa. E5.5 can replicate information with AD with the ADC setup but without the ADC, there’s no information exchanged between E5.5 and AD. You certainly don’t need to setup the ADC for Exchange 5.5 to function in a 2K native mode domain.

Again, if I’m incorrect in any of this, someone please correct me.

Thanks,

Mike.

No, it should be no matter what, Exchange does create universal security groups if it detects that those groups were granted rights to some object.

That’s only if he decides to migrate to Exchange 2K right?

It can be done, but there is an issue with the public folders and the distribution lists that have been given access to them. See the following Q article:

Don't be scared. They say you "must" run in native mode. That's not true. If your public folder hierarchy is well developed and has complex nested permissions, then it is definitely in your best interest to go native. If you don't have a complex hierarchy and permissions, you can manually enumerate your groups out to the members and then you are fine. When you are ready to go to native mode (win2k, not exchange), then you can use universal security groups.

Hope this helps,

We were also on 5.5 for a while (before going to 2K) all the while in Native AD mode

Nope. I've done it for close to 2 years now without issue.
