I also have Backup Exec with the Exchange agent installed, I have it running
once a day but it depends on the amount of traffic that you have and how
critical it is for your company.
We have RAID 5 on the server so I'm not worried about a hard drive crashing,
we also have two external SMTP servers that sit on the DMZ and process mail
for SPAM, viruses and other filters before they make it to the exchange
server. We also keep copies of every message that comes in/out of our
company for a couple of months in a separate server.
In the event that the Exchange server was down, I can set the SMTP servers
to hold the messages for a whole day, thus not loosing any incoming
messages. Restoring the Exchange server would take about four hours at the
latest.
Most of our users keep their PST files on their systems and are backed up on
a regular basis.
Again it depends on how critical the info is for your company, if you need
to have it 24x7 then you may want to have data stored in multiple systems
and have more than one Exchange server.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Exchange Backup

Hi all...

I currently use Backup exec to perform my nightly backups. I like it, it
seems to work just fine.
I also use a small retrospect piece that does a live backup to a flat file 4
times throughout the day.

I was wondering if anyone else is performing "Hot" backups throughout the
day and if so, what are you using?

We are running Exchange 2000 on server 2000.

Thank you.
