this issue is resolved for 4.2 - there are a number of different issues around this (e.g. http://issues.apache.org/activemq/browse/ AMQ-914) - which have been addressed recently.

I have noticed the same. Luckily, our messages are small enough that we can fit more than we need in memory. However, it's a huge limitation and when
OutOfMemory is thrown, the queue can get corrupted.

I've tried 4.1.0 version, if messages are not consumed from the queue, memory usage in the broker still increases untill out of memory exception
is thrown.
