THIS WEEK IN THE PELORUS TRUST MEDIAGALLERY

Thursday 9th August, 5.30pm
Opening Celebration - This is not a family album
You are invited to attend the opening celebration of This is not a family album, an installation by Kathy Dudding.

This is not a family album is an installation which explores the relationship between image and text. One group of monitors displays images selected from home movies shot in the 1950-60s, while another cluster relays short typewritten narratives. The home movies are dreamscapes; happy images of happy families. Conversely, each of the texts relate a traumatic event. The footage in This is not a family album is drawn from Dudding’s own archive of found film, while some films were purchased on the Trade Me website or in foreign locales including a second-hand Catholic shop in Rome. The text has previously been published as a piece of experimental writing in the journal brief.

Saturday 11th August International Home Movie Day, 5.00pm KOHA
August 11 marks International Home Movie Day, an annual event started in 2002 by a group of film archivists concerned about what would happen to all the home movies shot on film during the 20th century. In celebration of International Home Movie Day the New Zealand Film Archive presents home movie treasures from it’s amateur collection, a live soundtrack performance by DJ Alphabethead and a talk by NZFA Cataloguer Kathy Dudding on experimental amateur film making. Featuring films by George Eiby, Kelly Tarlton and more. Entry by KOHA.
