Bus services in East Sussex should be supported by naturalists. There is too much racing around in cars, and for what? More tarmac, more roads, less insects, mammals and birds. Using up fuel. Polluting the air. Pontificating at meetings and on the electronic media. Flying non-stop here there and everywhere while the poor of the world slave over fields and rubbish dumps below them. How on earth can someone from Hastings go by bus to these gatherings? There was an East Sussex day ticket now costing £6.80. BUT only as far as Eastbourne! Last time I heard, Seaford, Newhaven and Brighton were in East Sussex... thanks to the privatisation of national services (in reality, everything is being done to increase car ownership and use).

I just wanted to touch base and let you know more about Polli:Nation. Polli:Nation currently has 8 schools in Sussex working on recording Pollinators and making habitat changes for them. The schools have survey their sites annually as part of the OPAL Polli:Nation survey and then they have a grant to help make the changes, there is also a need for them to work with a range of volunteers. The first year was really busy with workshops half the schools are now beginning to make their changes. This ranges from tree planting and forest school linked activities to changes in mowing and looking at very compact spaces for special needs students. If you are interested in Knowing more about this project please see the website here http://www.polli-nation.co.uk/ or email me or pollinat...@ltl.org.uk The survey is available for everyone and we want help to get it into other schools and community groups next summer. It used to be possible to catch a No. 40 bus from Brighton to Hassocks Stone Pound and walk to the Adastra Hall before the 10:00am start time. I have searched every bus timetable and there is not a single bus leaving Brighton that arrives at Haywards Heath before 10:00 am. BUT..... There is a way..... >From Brighton catch No. 29 Tunbridge Wells bus, leaving Brighton Churchill >Square at 05:52am, arriving at Tunbridge Wells station at 07:15am (be aware >that the 29 is limited stop as far as Falmer). >From Tunbridge Wells station (Stop U) take the No. 291 Crawley bus, leaving T. >Wells at 07:29am. Get off at East Grinstead War Memorial (Stop J), arriving >at 08:11am. (It is also possible to change at Forest Row (o/s Brambletye) if >the 291 is late, but Metrobus services generally keep good time). >From East Grinstead War Memorial (Stop H) take the No. 270 Brighton bus, >leaving at 08:23am. This passes through Forest Row (opposite Brambletye) at 08:32am and continues via Lindfield and Haywards Heath to Brighton. Get off at the "Lindfield Adj West Common Drive" stop, arriving at 09:00am. From the nearby mini-roundabout walk down Appledore Gardens and Oathall Community College is just past the end of this road. I'm tempted to try this myself because the connections are good, but not too tight, and should work smoothly. The Brighton & Hove route No. 29 buses normally keep good time on Saturday mornings. .Peter Hodge. ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the Symantec Email Security.cloud service.
