Hi folks,

I joined the list a few days ago and have been lurking but thought it time to
introduce myself.

I'm the president and founder of the Peterborough Linux User Group (PLUG).
Peterborough is in Central Ontario between Toronto and Ottawa for those that
haven't heard of it. PLUG started about 3 years though it began as a Linux
SIG (special interest group) of the Kawartha Computer Club (KCC). I got into
Linux because I had gotten sick of Windows instability and sought the perfect
OS. Linux isn't perfect, but it's a lot closer than anything else I've used.
I'm a long-time (at least for my age) computer nerd having started
programming in BASIC on a TRS-80 when I was 10.

PLUG is a small group with usually 5-7 coming to meetings held at a member's
home though we have 30+ on the meeting announcement list. About half of those
that attend are computer professionals. Our meetings aren't really formal and
our presenters are just made up of 3-4 of the regulars. We maintain a website
hosted on a member's business server in Texas, and have a discussion list on
Yahoo Groups (plug-discussion). I tried to get a regular e-newsletter going
but it (and I) stalled after the first issue. Before I founded PLUG I had
occupied various positions in the KCC including president, membership
coordinator and writing for our award-winning newsletter. I've volunteered as
president of the KCC for another year as well as continuing as president of
PLUG. I'm hoping that CLUE can become an association of LUGs similar to how
APCUG works for PC user groups. If you haven't heard of APCUG, you can check
them out here:

Thanks to Bill for updating our group listing. It's great to see CLUE being
so proactive.
