Oh, you mean like the way Proctor and Gamble forced Neilssens to
purchase P&G funded datamining tools from Cognos by locking their
global bar-scan data into a Cognos proprietary format?  That sort of
thing?

No one even questioned it in 1988.  It was just "good business".
