i do not have encore so i don't know what format it accepts.

from reading on the encore forum i saw a lot of posts dealing with AC-
3 so i presume you need to have an ac-3 file.

for a 5.1 encoder that is 6 separate/discrete channels. the .1 being 
the LFE and it is not automatically created.
