I'm considering moving over to HD camcorders now that some of the
prosumer models are reasonably priced. I know that editing HD in
Premiere Pro will take some hardware upgrades to handle increased
file sizes and video processing. More to the point, I know I'll need
to have a better monitor than my old NTSC workhorse to view HD video.

The camcorders I'm looking at support 1080i resolution, so I'd like
to get a monitor that has at least native 1080 vertical resolution.
Dell has an interesting computer monitor, the 2405FPW, that has a
resolution of 1920x1200, enough to handle 1080 resolution:

It's a reasonable price: around $900 - 950 when it's on sale. I'm
just not sure if it will handle 1080i input -- if interlaced signals
will throw it off, since it's a technically a progressive monitor.
I'm also unfamiliar with video and audio outputs on the new Sony HD
camcorders. What cables do you need to connect HD output on the
camcorder to HD input on a monitor? The Dell has 15-pin D-sub and
DVI-D ports along with the standard S-video, composite, and component
ports. Do you think it will work for displaying an HD camcorder output?

Any information from all you folks experienced in dealing with HD is
very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Boom
