Hi! Maybe there“s something to it, but I capture without a prob also without tape.
Since Firewire arrived, and as long as I stay away from the "brand" fw cards like Pinnacle, all is well always. No frames dropped with or without tape, all files recorded is compatible with everything, pure luck and happiness all the way. Have had two problems since Firewire arrived: 1- Pinnacle FW card in one PC captured DVfiles that could only be played back on Pinnacle cards. Instead of solving this problem the way I suspect Pinnacle wanted (buying a Pinnacle card for all my PCs and all my friends PCs and keep one in my pocket in case someone needed one), I solved it by trowing the Pinnacle card as far into the forest as I could. Have used buildt in FW ever since, no problem!:-) 2- Microsoft invented SP2 for Windows XP. No FW device worked until they came up with the FW-fix for SP2. Even destroyed one of my Maxtor 200 GB FW disks. Fortunately I had backup of the thousands of dollars worth of data on it, first complete backup I had ever made... Well well, too long answer to a short enough question. Sorry.
