Sounds like it is a codec issue, first, find out directly about the camera's
recording codecs, like if it's recorded as mpeg2 then is it using audio
layer 2 codec or using ac3 audio codec or what not

Premiere is good to work with avi files, with mpeg2 or such, you have to
find out first what type of format the camera uses and then go from there.
Mpeg2 is a playback format, and sometimes, the smaller camera puts the audio
to be either ac3 or layer2 which they aren't compatible with Premiere
(directly unless you use a plug ins)

So, once you find out the type of audio codec you uses then you need to find
a way to convert the audio codec into wave (preferable) or mp3.

Hope this would help 'troubleshoot'

Unfornately, didn't work. I have changed file extension (for many
files) and I have the following error messages:
mpg -> unsupported audio rate in file. (original file)
mov -> The importer reported a generic error.
avi -> Unsupported format or damaged file.

Does anybody have any other suggestion?

Renato

people, changing the file extension to .mov or .avi makes it work.
For me, .mov did not work, but changing to .avi did.
