First of all, let thank you for in depth responses to my newbie 
questions. 

I did realize that my project setting need adjusting, and they may 
need so again. 
There was a massive improvement when the imported files from my Canon 
HV 30 camcorder were adjusted appropriately for PP CS3, however 
there's some room for adjustments still I believe.

That aside the issue for me right now is being able to playback these 
large mpeg2 files that PP is now creating. This may be a case of not 
having the right accleration "codecs" for windows media player.

I'd prefer to audit the results prior to burning any final video out 
to disc.

checking the mbs might reap benefits?
