No idea bout HD-SDI, however HDV is a pretty good format.  It's very light 
on CPU for decoding as it's Mpeg2-based (unlike AVCHD which is said to be v. 
demanding), takes no more space than SD DV, and edits easily in Premiere 
(unlike AVCHD pre-CS3).  As of a year ago it was also easily better quality 
than AVCHD with fewer compression artifacts (that might have changed by now, 
haven't kept up with reviews).

The only downside is that it's tape-based, but I'll take that over worse 
quality any day.
