I thought it might be interesting for some that my CS5/Cineform problem
has been identified
but not yet completely fixed.
I contacted Cineform and got some qualified help. After trying a few of
their suggestions
I found that I have corrupt drivers in my WIN7 64bit caused by a virus
(error:0x80070005).
My dual boot system has come to the rescue AGAIN.
I installed Neoscene in XP and everything works - no more sound problems.
I could now convert clips in XP and then go to CS5 in WIN7 but will
probably have to do
a complete re-installation unless I find a fix (nothing better for a
pensioner to do anyway:-) ).

I found a small program called Driver Detective. It scans the computer
and shows which drivers
may be corrupt or outdated. One has to register the program to fix the
problems what I don't
want to do but at least I know what the problems are and can try to fix
them manually.

So, before blaming programs one should first ensure that there are no
problems with the computer
drivers etc.

Before I spend money on a new graphics card or computer I decided to try
converting my AVCHD files with Cineform.
To find out how it works I downloaded the trial version.
The picture quality of the converted files looks very good but when I import
the clips into CS5 the sound is totally distorted.
The sound is perfect when played in Windows Media Player , although I had
to download a patch/codec first before it played the sound at all.

I had the same problem when I imported clips taken with the Sony NX5
with sound
recorded in Linear PCM into CS4 but that has been fixed in CS5.

I could replace the sound of the converted clips with that of the
original clips but
that is a fair amount of extra work.

If that can not be fixed I would not go for Cineform as it is rather
expensive (in my mind).
$129 is about the third of a medium CUDA card.

Any thoughts or solutions?

Uwe
