I suggest you read up on the Adobe web site about the tech requirements 
for PPro first. You need Win 7 (unless you are doing Mac). Not sure what 
video cards are recommended. All the usual things you would find in a 
new box - USB 3, lotsa memory, and I couldn't quote from memory all the 
specific instruction sets that need to be available. And there's the 
issue how many drives, how many procs, and how much you want to slim 
down your wallet.

Does sound like fun. I have a new Win 7 laptop for mail and internet and 
such, you certainly can get more in a laptop these days than just a few 
years ago. Mine was about the same money, bought it on sale, has lots 
more memory pre-installed, Win 7 Home Premium (my first 64 bit OS). 
Larger screen, better mobo, just oodles above anything I've had before 
and it DOESN'T have Vista!
