H264 should play on the Mac, especially if you use Quicktime.
Quicktime MOV is a container format, not a codec. Many different video and
audio codecs can be used in MOV. AVI works in a similar way.
The codec, or at least a decoder for it, must be installed on the target system
or be directly supported by the player application.
