PS I checked and no the Asus board doesn't have
FireWire (correct me if I'm wrong).

I checked my storage devices and all have USB2,
FireWire800 and eSata, none have USB3. I'll also
need FireWire for capturing old SD/HD tape
footage. Since some of my storage devices are
huge (G Speed Q and a Drobo, both 16TB) I won't
replace them soon so I can forget about
Thunderbolt and will stick with FireWire and
eSata for the next few years, in that case the

MSI Z77A-GD65 is fine (and cheaper than the
Asus). Then in the future when investing in new
storage devices I'll go for LAN network, I don't
see Thunderbolt becoming the cross platform standard.

I regret buying the Drobo now because there is
also a Drobo with network connector available
which would have been much easier when working
cross platform between Apple and PC and wireless
devices like my iPad (great for previewing material from the sofa).
