In Encore (CS6 at least) there is a simple slideshow function that allows
you to drop your pictures into the timeline and select some music, then it
asks if you want the music to loop or 'fit' to the pictures length, which
it can do automatically for you.  Not sure if this was available on
previous versions.

You also have the option for the same or different transitions between them.

Quite a nifty way to create simple or complex slideshows I found :-)
