Thanks Rieni that makes a lot of sense,

I have to admit I don't clean the heads as often as I should.
I will clean the heads before I download my next repair.
It never occurred to me to leave part of the tape, I will try that.
The Sony 1000 has given me great results, fits my budget. 
Card camcorders are ideal. 

I notice my sync problem is identified by a red stop lite at the bottom right 
hand corner of Pre Pro.
Every time that lite shows up I have another problem.
So far I am able to repair them by re capturing everything after the red lite.
Hopefully a good cleaning will stop my sync problems.
