Doug is using Prem Elements 10 (as he wrote)
Even in CS6 it is not as easy as you wrote, you also have to do a number 
settings.

Other than that it is best to do it by trial and error - the best way of 
learning.
Obviously the stabilizer has limitations. You can't simply swing your 
camera around and expect a stable image
after applying the stabilizer.
