Dennis,

after installing our magstars more than a year ago we experienced lot of
readonly tapes. We could not believe that this was possible on magstars.

We found out that the roboter was set per default to clean a drive every 500
mounts. We reduced this counter to 250
and have never seen a readonly tape since then.

Maybe you have a similar problem.
